FORM RESISTANCE IN ALLUVIAL STREAMS

, &
Pages 55-69 | Published online: 07 Jun 2012

ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of an investigation carried out for studying the effect of alluvial riverbed features on resistance to the flow. A vast amount of data available in literature from laboratories and field was compiled and used in the present study. Based on a detailed analysis an implicit expression is derived for estimation of form resistance in terms of the Froude number of flow and the dimensionless shear stress. The method proposed herein produces results, which are comparable with those from the existing method in terms of accuracy of predictions.
