ABSTRACT

Due to high variability of annual rainfall and conflicting demands on scarce water resources, the study and operation of reservoir system has assumed great significance to meet the short term and long term requirements. New methods have been developed which are simple to understand and can be effectively adopted for existing system. In present study, an optimal reservoir operation model is developed using Fuzzy Linear Programming (FLP) which is computationally simple and easy to implement to the real world situation of reservoir operation. FLP model is applied to Jayakwadi reservoir-stage II, Maharashtra, India. Model considers two objective functions viz. maximization of total releases for Irrigation and Hydropower. FLP model considers fuzziness involved in objectives and constraints. Results have been obtained to decide the operating policy in a water year for the case study under consideration.
