Abstract

The permeability characteristics of homogenous perforated plate have been estimated using measured pressure drops and velocities through pipe flow experiments. An empirical formula for coefficient of permeability is proposed for various values of porosity of plates, which is further used in a theoretical model to estimate the hydrodynamic characteristics of perforated plate, in terms of wave reflection and transmission. The empirical formula-based theoretical estimation of reflection and transmission coefficients is then validated with the experimental results obtained from wave tank tests, for single and double perforated vertical barriers.
