The Opinions of Students about Choosing Thesis Subjects in Turkish Education and Turkish as a Foreign Language Department

Abstract

This paper seeks to determine the challenges faced by master-level graduate students, studying Turkish Education and Turkish as a Foreign Language. The study is a qualitative research, and the research group of the study, where criterion sampling from purposive sampling methods is applied, is composed of 15 postgraduate students from Istanbul University, Institute of Educational Science, Department of Turkish Education master’s program and Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Turkish as a Foreign Language master’s program. A semistructured interview is applied while collecting data, and content analysis is performed in the data analysis step. Findings and results are categorized for each of the interview questions. This paper is expected to be a guide to students who are recently doing so or who will be in writing a thesis in related departments.
