Abstract

A sufficient, condition for optimizing a real valued function is obtained by generalizing the Rayleigh-Ritz theorem. A total order with the same basic property of majorization is defined for Rⁿ, By this order conditions are developed for optimizing vector functions. Economic applications using optimization are considered.
