Abstract

By mining China Household Financial Survey database (CHFS), the article uses Probit model and Tobit model to make an empirical test. The conclusion is summarized as follows. Firstly, marriage has a positive effect on participation in commercial health insurance, in other words, married residents are more inclined to invest in commercial health insurance. Secondly, households with higher levels of education increase the participation rate of commercial health insurance. Family size has a significantly positive impact on commercial health insurance participation rate. Thirdly, males participate more in commercial health insurance than females, which is independent of marital status. Fourth, in different age groups, marital status has a significant impact on commercial health insurance; married residents are more involved in commercial health insurance at all educational levels.
