A proposed scheme to achieve node authentication in military applications of wireless sensor network

, &

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Network is one of the most rapidly evolving networks which are being deployed in a wide variety of applications like agriculture, environment monitoring, military surveillance and healthcare. However, if we focus on military use, vulnerability of data while transferring over these networks creates a high risk, so maintaining confidentiality and authentication of data on transit is an important aspect. The energy and memory constraints of sensor nodes for military specific application require a light weighted cryptographic scheme. This paper proposes a certificate less asymmetric key based cryptographic scheme which is build on the concept of Elliptic curve cryptography and Identity Based Public Key Cryptography. The proposed approach achieves efficiency in terms of reduction in encryption and decryption time by eliminating the need of digital signature or certificate. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm can achieve reduction of encryption and decryption time without compromising the desired level of security.
