Abstract

Transmission network expansion planning problem (TNEP) is an utmost necessary aspect of the power system. The TNEP is required to supply adequate power to consumer load demand in a reliable and economical manner. In this work, a recently developed meta-heuristic technique known as grey wolf optimizer (GWO) is applied to solve (N-1) contingency based security constrained TNEP (STNEP). The GWO is applied to this STNEP for solution of six bus Graver’s system and 46 bus Brazilian system. The accessed findings for STNEP by GWO are correlated with the other algorithms provided in the literature, which shows the potential of GWO algorithm in terms of optimum system cost for STNEP.
