Abstract

In this paper, the genetic algorithm (GA) optimization method is proposed for optimizing the parameters of base isolation system. For genetic algorithm optimization, program in C++ has been constructed to find the optimized parameters of the base isolation system. The aim of this study is to find the parameters of base isolation building within a defined range to simultaneously minimize the acceleration at roof and that of the base isolation model, which subjected to historic ground motion and resting on various soil conditions namely; hard, medium, and soft soils. According to IS code, nine cases have been investigated for various isolation system damping ratios and different soil conditions. Dynamic analysis of time history has been performed for examining the performance of base isolation model using ETABS software. The performance analysis of base isolation model, after using the optimum Parameters proved that the parameters of base isolation system determined by genetic algorithm are true optima and effective not only in the objective function of optimization, but also on others dynamic response such as displacement, drift, and base shear.
