Abstract

The outburst of novel COVID’19 pneumonia pandemic brought a huge challenge for teaching-learning system all over the world. All were restrained to the four walls of their houses to slash down the multiplying effect of corona virus. Demand for web based virtual teaching platforms augmented unexpectedly and put forward innovative solutions to overcome the challenges faced by faculty and students while teaching/learning. The paper covers faculty perspectives on work from home, their comfort level in using online teaching platforms during COVID’ 19 lockdown and solutions are proposed for the challenges faced by them while teaching virtually in this nerve-racking situation. The results of this study showed mixed responses in terms of online teaching with so many constraints. For most participants of the study it was their first time experience of online teaching. The major challenging factor for faculty while working from home was of maintaining work life balance, disturbance at home, difficulty in maintaining personal connect with the students which was possible in face to face teaching, unable to read their body language and distinguish their tones while answering questions which leads to less or no control on students attending e-classes. Results of the study can provide enough help to the educational administrators in developing e-college communities and forums for smooth conduct of online teaching activities under the current pandemic situation and times to come.
