Abstract

This paper analyses the important properties of and construction for Balanced Incomplete Block Designs (BIBDs) which was introduced in experimental studies by Yates (1936). The designs are equireplicate binary designs for v varieties in b blocks of k plots each. However, designs do not exist for all triples (v, b, k). In this paper, a series of methods for construction of balanced incomplete block designs are investigated. We also discuss the problems in the existence and non-existence of balanced designs.
