Pages 1321-1326 | Received 16 Mar 2017, Published online: 20 Dec 2017

Abstract

This paper explores the biological characteristics and engineering mechanical properties of vetiver grass, focusing on the experiments of using vetiver grass in projects in the Yellow River water and soil conservation test station in Suide, Shaanxi province. It analyses vetiver grass’role in rainfall retention, surface runoff regulation, enhancement of soil anti-shearing strength and anti-erosion, restoration of local ecological environment and leading role in the economy of the plantings area for the scheme of slope stabilization. Moreover, this paper proposes the most suitable cultivation and maintenance plan in respect to Suide’s climate attributes, which provides a reliable theoretical basis for engineering practice in other applicable areas and plays an broad exemplary role.
