&

Abstract

Information is a key asset of an organization. In order to maintain the security of a system, biometric authentication is useful in various applications such as online banking, aadhaar linking, and immigration control, e-voting. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the vascular pattern-based finger vein biometric as a promising solution for user authentication, in this globally connected digital world. In this paper, we discussed different user authentication mechanisms, authentication factors and some significant tools available for authentication. It also provides the review of processing stages of finger vein authentication such as image acquisition, image preprocessing, image enhancement, feature extraction and matching. It also gives detailed information related to publicly available finger vein databases developed in different universities for research work. In near future, due to the development of new technologies finger vein will become the most commonly used authentication method.
