Abstract

Chemical composition of the essential oil of the flowers of Anthemis odontostephana Boiss. var. odontostephana has been studied by GC-MS for the first time. Forty-seven components, comprising 99.1 % of the total oil, were identified. Spathulenol (24.1 %), hexadecanoic acid (12.1 %), germacrene D (6.9 %), 1,8-cineole (5.6 %), 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (5.4 %), caryophyllene oxide (5.3 %), β-caryophyllene (4.8 %) and camphor (4.4 %) were found to be the major constituents of the oil. The oil of the flowers of A. odontostephana Boiss. var. odontostephana consisted of six monoterpene hydrocarbons (0.2 %), eleven oxygenated monoterpenes (14.8 %), eleven sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (18.9 %), nine oxygenated sesquiterpenes (38.6 %) and two phenylpropanoids (0.2 %). Eight nonterpenic compounds were also consisted 26.4 % of the oil.
