Aroma Profile of Mentha arvensis Linn. Growing in Belgaum Region of Karnataka, India

Abstract:

The essential oil of the leaves of Mentha arvensis L. (Lamiaceae) was obtained by hydro distillation and investigated by gas chromatography equipped with flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Seven constituents were identified, representing 99.1 % of the total oil. The main compound was menthol (93.7 %). The other minor constituents were isomenthone (3.2 %), menthone (1.5 %) and carvenone (0.7 %).
