Abstract:
The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation method from the aerial parts of Anethum graveolens were analysed by GC-MS. Twelve compounds constituting 96.8 % of the oil were identified. The main compounds were α-phellandrene (31.8 %), apiole (15.3 %), dill ether (13.2 %), limonene (11.8 %), geraniol (10.6 %) and pcymene (5.3 %). The chemical composition of the oil was found to be similar as reported from India and abroad, however there was a considerable quantitative variation among the major compounds identified.
