Essential Oil Content and Composition of Achillea kellalensis Boiss, An Endemic Plant in Iran

Abstract

Achillea kellalensis is an endemic medicinal plant in Iran. In this investigation essential oil content and composition of this plant was determined. Essential oil was obtained by water distillation method. Chemical compositions were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Essential oil yield was about 0.7% (w/w). Twenty-six compounds were identified representing 98.2% of the total oil. The major compounds were found to be α-thujone (70.78%), 1,8-cineol (10.87%) and camphor (6.74%).
