Phytochemical Composition of Thymus vulgaris L. Essential Oil

Abstract

The present study reports the chemical composition of Thymus vulgaris essential oil and its main compounds. The essential oil was obtained from the aerial parts of the Thymus vulgaris by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC-MS. The major components were 1,8-cineole (6.23 %), camphor (15.14 %), α-pinene (8.0 %), camphene (10.54 %), carvarcrol (18.51 %) and thymol (20.35 %).
