Abstract

Galbanum is an aromatic oleo-gum-resin forms as a pharmaceutical and industrial product of the species Ferula gummosa Boiss. Until recently, the essential oil composition from different parts of the plant in comparison with the oleo-gum-resin remains mostly unclear. Therefore, the essential oil from galbanum, root, stem, flower, and leaf of the plant were extracted and investigated by GC-MS. Results showed that flower and leaf contain the most and the least amount of essential oil among four organs, respectively (1.2 and 0.1% v/w). The main constituents of the four oils were β-pinene and α-pinene. The other major components in the galbanum, root and flower were β-eudesmol (7.51, 8.87, and 8.38% respectively), in the stem limonene (3.71%), and in the leaf bornyl acetate (9.89%).
