Abstract

Nepeta dschuparensis Bornm. is an endemic plant from Iran. Little information is available on this endemic medicinal plant. The aim of the present study was to identify the essential oil compositions in stems, leaves and flowers of N. dschuparensis using GC-MS analysis. The essential oil yields of stems, leaves and flowers from N. dschuparensis were 0.2, 1.2 and 0.7%, respectively. The main components in the essential oil of stems were 1,8-cineole (26.8%) and nepetalactone (66.9%), in the essential oil of leaves were α-terpineol (8.9%) and nepetalactone (80.3%) and in the essential oil of flowers were 1,8-cineole (22.8%), α-terpineol (7.5%) and nepetalactone (63.3%). The results showed that nepetalactone was the main component in the essential oil of this medicinal plant. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report revealing the essential oil components in N. dschuparensis.
