Abstract

The chemical composition of the volatile oils obtained from the flowers, leaves, and stems of Triadica sebifera were examined. The oil samples were obtained by hydrodistillation of plant materials, while gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) was used for the analysis of chemical compositions. The obtained results revealed that alcohols and esters represented the most abundant compounds in all examined samples. Twenty-six compounds were successfully identified that representing 84.4 % of the oil contents in the flowers, such as bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (11.7 %), 2-methyl-cyclopentanone (8.5 %), N-phenyl-formamide (6.9 %). Eighteen compounds representing for 82.5 % of the total composition were identified in the leaves, such as bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (15.9 %), phytol (10.2 %), 2,6,10-trimethyl-tetradecane (9.6 %). The stems contained twenty-two components totaled 87.0 % of the total constituents, such as bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (17.3 %), 3-methyl-1-pentanol (11.1 %). Only three compounds coexisted in the flowers, leaves, and stems oil, which revealed the difference of the three oils.
