Contribution of Indian scientists in PLOS ONE : A scientometric analysis

Abstract

The present study aims to know the contribution of Indian scientists in foreign journal. For this, a scientometric study has been conducted on PLOS ONE (Public Library of Science) which is the world's first multidisciplinary Open Access journal of United States. A survey was conducted by using ‘Advanced Search’ feature of the Web of Science (WoS) database. The present study is limited to the time span of 2012-2016 and it was found that, total articles published during this period were 133,897 of which India contributed 3,174 (2.37%) articles. Analysis of the data revealed that all the top contributing countries were developed countries except Brazil and India which contribute 2.95% and 2.37% respectively. Hence the contribution of under-developed country like India is notable. The study identified CSIR as the top most contributing institution in India. Also, the authorship pattern showed that the Indian scientists are very much inclined towards collaborative authorship.
