Abstract
The growing importance of information and enormous amounts of produced data put a big emphasis on data analysis tools. Data analysis off enormous amounts of data uses a lot of processing power and time even if the data contains a small amount of information. That is why it is important to identify the best source of data to minimize its amount and maximize the amount of information that it contains. The article focuses on information anomalies in citation behaviour of articles called sleeping papers, which according to recent research might present important scientific discoveries (Van Raan, 2017). While bibliographic databases cover different sets of source titles, it is possible that also the citation histories of indexed papers differ, thus resulting in different sets of Sleeping papers. To determine the discrepancies between Scopus and Web of science in this regard, the same methods of search in Scopus and Web of Science were used, supported by the software developed specifically for this purpose using the corpora of papers related to the dynamic research area of software engineering. The analysis showed that discrepancies between above two bibliographic databases exist and that each contains different sleeping papers.
