Abstract
Dr. Buonocore, a pioneer of adhesive dentistry, published his landmark paper about increasing the adhesion of acrylic filling material to enamel surfaces in 1955. His paper was cited rarely till 1971, and then it suddenly became cited extensively, showing characteristics of a remarkable Sleeping Paper. The citation history of the Buonocore paper was retrieved from Web of Science. The citing papers were analysed with the VOSviewer and CitiNetExplorer software to identify the prince and asses the papers impact. The analysis showed that Buonocorès paper is a sleeping paper, with a very dynamic citation history. Peaks in the citation history occurred in conjunction with important milestones in the history of adhesive dentistry showing that Sleeping Papers may be used to identify important scientific discoveries and can significant events in the history of a discipline.
