A Note on the Losses in Optical Fibres

Abstract

A brief account of various losses occurring in the optical fibres has been presented. Specifically losses due to absorption, scattering, bending, splice and coupling have been considered and a quantitative figure. s given wherever possible. How the knowledge of losses and their cause, is useful in selection of fibres for practical applications has been pointed out.
