This exploratory research strives at an analysis of intonation patterns in prototypical Afrikaans interrogatives. Firstly, we tried to give an indication of the prototypical Afrikaans interrogative. It was done by means of several perception and production tests. The results are preliminary, but can be seen as directional. It was found that not only a prototipicity continuum exists for interrogatives, but also for wh-question words. In the end, some prototypical interrogatives were analysed in order to illustrate typical intonation patterns in these sentences.
