POWER INTERRUPTED

Pages 123-129 | Published online: 27 Apr 2011

Abstract

Power is not exclusive to formal institutions and structures. It can be found in everyday experiences. The exercise of power needs to extend into every space in our society and change the ways in which we relate to each other. In this discussion with Jean Burgess, a KhoiSan chief and social activist, I show how different conceptions of power can interrupt meaning both institutionally and non-institutionally and move marginal groups into the centre of society.
