Abstract
This article examines the genre and chronology of the tragoudi of Andrinople. As a result of the analysis of the song's structure, rhythm, specific characteristics and contents, it becomes evident that this tragoudi, which presents a chronological-historical riddle, should he classified as a (historical) thrênos. The facts to which the song refers cannot be connected—as usually is done—with the capture of Andrinople by the Turks in 1361. They fit in only with the events of 1204–1206, when—as a result of the 4th crusade—‘Frankish’ crusaders, Bulgarians, Vlachs and Greeks raided the town.
