Abstract
Sulpicius Severus used many sources when composing his Chronica. He carefully compared his sources and corrected dates and numbers and even where it can be pointed out that he literally quoted from sources, he never did this mechanically but always preserved something of his own style. He never indicated which sources he used and this led to much research to uncover them. For the history of the times of the Arian controversy he made use of the writings of Hilary of Poltiers. The aim of this paper is to try and determine to what extent he did.
