Abstract
The article discusses the pagan oracular saying quoted by the Christian author of Titus 1:12. A close reading of Titus 1:12-14 and its context is followed by an investigation of several facets of the reference to the reputed author. Epimenides in order to spell out the function of the saying in the letter as a whole.
