The mouth trap: a play on words and things

Pages 161-170 | Published online: 21 Jun 2007

Abstract

Through a dialogue between various authors and an assumed yet uncertain readership, the compiler addresses issues of authorship and creativity in the stage-management of everyday life, as well as notions of fluency and humour across a range of languages. Doubling plays are also used extensively within the text, showing ambiguity to be equally a source of concern and delight wherever actors and audiences negotiate the scripting and performance of their particular daily dramas. By the same token, the presented paper is neither intended nor expected to be read as a self-contained whole but rather that some of the issues of speech and perception alluded to may be evoked, or recreated, through the acts of reading and recitation.
