On behalf of the Société de Biomécanique and the organising committee, I would express our great pleasure and honour to welcome you cordially to Toulon (France), to take part in the XXXIV Congress of the Société de Biomécanique, 31 August to 2 September 2009.

This year, the congress is focused on ‘Biomechanics, Rehabilitation and Disability’ and two invited conferences are proposed on this topic by François Prince (Montreal University, Canada) and Dominique Pioletti (EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland). The organising committee has also proposed to honour significant work in biomechanics field with the Société de Biomécanique award, user case senior researcher award and the poster award. Besides, the scientific programme includes 110 communications (59 oral presentations and 51 posters). Parallel sessions will include all contributions in the following fields: biomaterials and tissue biomechanics, muscle biomechanics, movement analysis, sport biomechanics, bone and joint biomechanics, cardiovascular biomechanics, rehabilitation and disability, animal biomechanics, impact biomechanics and motor control.

We are delighted to receive the biomechanics community in Toulon. There is no doubt that fruitful and friendly exchanges will take place not only between researchers and students but also with several industrial partners who will present the state of the art in measurement and biomechanics-related technologies.

In the name of all the members of the organising and scientific committees of this XXXIVth Congress of the Société de Biomécanique, please let me wish you very pleasant days in Toulon.

Many thanks to all participants, institutions, organisations and industries who have accepted to help the organisation of this congress. The logos of those identified at the time when this editorial was written are reproduced below.
