Abstract
EDITOR'S NOTES
Leisure is a very personal concept which is shaped by ones experiences, values, and culture. What may be true of leisure in one culture or country may differ greatly in a neighboring country. In order to enhance the readers understanding of adult leisure and the factors which influence it, information from various countries has been solicited. Individuals representing many diverse regions of the world were invited to submit information on key factors influencing leisure in middle adulthood in their respective countries. Eight of those contacted responded to the invitation. It must be noted that these individuals were asked to provide information based on their personal observations and experiences, not necessarily on existing literature. As such, the following discussion is based upon the observations of individual leisure professionals and not meant to reflect the collective perspectives of the countries which they represent. Countries represented include the following: Australia, Costa Rica, France, Germany, India, Korea and the United States.
