Abstract

Three new (8, 12, 13) and two revised (7, 9) eudesmane alcohols have been identified from the Taiwanese liverwort Lepidozia fauriana, together with a known macrocyclic bisbibenzyl, isoplagiochin D, and other known sesquiterpenoids. Their structures were determined by NMR and X-ray analyses. Three chemo-types of Lepidozia fauriana may be classified according to the skeleton of the major sesquiterpenoids identified in the species.

We thank Dr K. Yamada (Ise-shi, Japan) for identification of specimens, Miss S.-L. Huang (Department of Chemistry, National Taiwan University) and Miss Chi-Fon Chang (NMR Core Facility of the Institute of Biomedical Science, Academia Sinica) for NMR measurements. X-ray analysis was performed by Mr. G.-H. Lee at the Instrumentation Centre of National Taiwan University. The 800 MHz NMR spectra were obtained at the High-Field Biomacromolecular NMR Core Facility supported by the National Research Program for Genomic Medicine.
