Labor Law and Industrial Relations in Malaysia

Pages 463-485 | Published online: 10 Apr 2013

Abstract

This article examines the development of labour legislation and industrial relations in Malaysia since 1945. The Office of Registrar of Trade Unions has been a principal means of controlling and directing industrial relations practices. The powers of this office have been strengthened through three periods of emergency (1948–60, 1964–67, 1969). The development of Malaysian labour relations raises general questions about labour relations in developing economies.
