Rising Inequality? Distributional Shifts in Young Australians' Incomes and Earnings

Abstract

Based on panel data, this study of inequality among young Australians seeks the factors influencing the distribution of incomes and earnings. A key finding is that the pay gap between the sexes widened, independently of family formation, career breaks and different work experience. A significant pay premium was found for unionised workers.
