Abstract

The annual conference of the Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia and New Zealand (AIRAANZ) provides an opportunity for those interested in industrial relations and related disciplines to get together in a friendly and convivial environment to present their latest research and discuss the latest developments in the field. The 2014 Conference held in Melbourne carried on this tradition. We provide a brief outline of the conference and summarise some of the key issues included in the many discussions that took place.

Acknowledgements

We are grateful to many people for their continuing support in helping to lead AIRAANZ; in particular, Secretary and Newsletter Editor Sarah Kaine, Treasurer Chris Wright, Past President Janis Bailey and, of course, all of the other AIRAANZ officers, the committee and volunteers for their valuable contributions and input, including the referees for the conference and for this special issue. We much appreciate the generosity of all conference sponsors too.

Thanks to the AIRAANZ journal, Labour and Industry, Editorial Team: Suzanne Young, Rosaria Burchielli, Timothy Marjoribanks and Anthony O’Donnell, of La Trobe University. They have successfully implemented the move to a fine publisher: Taylor & Francis. Please consider Labour and Industry as a good place in which to publish.

Greg Bamber expresses thanks to the AIRAANZ community for giving him the honour and privilege of being President, and the opportunity to serve AIRAANZ. The whole 2014 AIRAANZ conference team (see Appendix 2) enjoyed the opportunity to host the conference and are grateful to all of the delegates and referees.

Best wishes to the 2014–2015 President: Erling Rasmussen and the 2015 conference team from NZ. Thanks again to everyone for making it a memorable conference!

We acknowledge that an earlier version of parts of this article was included in AIRAANZ Newsletter, Issue No. 4 Autumn 2014.
