The Queensland election of 7 February 2004: the coming of the second labor hegemony?

Pages 635-644 | Published online: 18 Jan 2007

Notes

It is commonly accepted that the first Labor hegemony began with T.J. Ryan's accession as Premier in 1915 and continued until Vince Gair's desertion of the party and its defeat in 1957, with only one interregnum: the conservative Moore government, 1929–32. This was followed by the Coalition—and later National Party—hegemony, 1957–89.

Data drawn from ECQ (Citation2004). This two‐party‐preferred vote figure is derived as a mean (of 89) from the sum of the 86 districts where Labor finished either first or second in the count.
