Abstract

Cationic surfactant was adsorbed to MoS2 on prevent water adsorption, which causes the friction and wear increase of MoS2 in humid air. The surfactant-adsorbed MoS2 boas applied as a bonded film lubricant, and friction and wear tests were carried out. The friction indicated a value around 20% smaller and the wear considerably decreased compared with those of the pure MoS2 bonded film lubricant. The surface analyses indicated that the surfactant adsorbed mainly to the crystallite edge of the MoS2 molecular structure and a little to the basal plane.
