Abstract

In this study, the effects of biodiesel use in a diesel engine on an injector and fuel injection pump piston were experimentally analyzed. To this end, two engines with the same technical specifications were used; petroleum diesel was used in one of the engines and 100% (B100) biodiesel was used in the other engine. After the engines were run for 200 h, their injectors and pump pistons were examined and compared by performing scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis measurements. SEM and EDX analyses showed significant structural changes on the surfaces of the injector nozzle and pump piston in the event that B100 is used.
