For the lubrication system, of a new type of automobile engine a large diameter trochoidal gear pump connected directly to the crankshaft (hereafter referred to as “parachoid pump”) is used in place of the conventional small diameter internal trochoidal gear pump, This paper provides a report on findings of analysis on factors that affect the oil pump driving power.

Results of a similar analysis done on the internal gear pump are also reported for reference. Findings obtained through this study are also applicable to other types of oil pumps.
