A Simulation Study of the Influence of Pressure and Temperature on the Viscosity of Polymer Modified Lubricating Oils at High Shear Rates

Abstract

The effects of high pressure, high temperature and high shear rate on the viscosity of VI improved oils are simulated in a series of high-shear experiments by either lowering the experimental temperature or increasing the molecular weight of the base oil. This study clearly demonstrates that there is no significant difference between the two methods for simulating the high temperature and high pressure conditions.
