A Data-Fitted Rolling Bearing Life Prediction Model–-Part II: Model Fit to the Historical Experimental Database

Pages 259-268 | Published online: 25 Mar 2008

Abstract

Parts I through III of this paper present the results of a project aimed at creating an improved rolling bearing spalling fatigue prediction method. (a) A large experimental bearing life database is assembled. (b) A mathematical life prediction model is formulated that includes traction, EHD film and surface roughness effects and numerous bearing material, design, manufacturing and operating parameters. (c) The model is filled to the database and its fit statistically evaluated. (d) The model is compared to major published models and parametrically explored. (e) Applicability of the model to rolling bearing design tasks is reviewed. The present paper is Part II, model fitting to the experimental data, with statistical evaluation.
