Abstract

A greener method for synthesizing azlactone has been described by using a highly efficient, selective, biodegradable and recyclable Choline hydroxide (ChOH) catalyst in an aqueous media. This approach has several advantages, including mild reaction conditions, high yields, short reaction time, and a simple set-up, making it a convenient and smart choice for Azlactone synthesis. Furthermore, the proposed methodology has the distinct advantage of not requiring the acetic anhydride, which is a corrosive and controlled ingredient.
