Abstract

GC-HRMS was used for the analysis of alkyldiphenylmethanes in crude oil. Diphenylmethane and four isomeric methyldiphenylmethanes were identified in crude oils by comparison of their mass spectra and chromatographic behaviour with authentic standards. These compounds are common constituents of crude oils and have been shown to occur in crude oils from various source types and geological ages.
