Abstract
Linear dichroism, fluorescence anisotropy and quantum chemical studies of dibenzo[cd,lm]perylene and tribenzo[a,cd,lm]perylene resulted in the assignment of polarization of transitions to several electronic singlet states. The anisotropy data indicate a geometry change in the first excited singlet state of both compounds.
