Abstract
An improved method using high resolution gas chromatography – high resolution mass spectrometry and isotope dilution techniques was developed This method has been applied satisfactorily for the determination of selected nitro-PAH in diesel engine exhaust and ambient air samples. Isomers of nitroanthracene, nitrofluoranthene and nitropyrene have been detected consistently in the exhaust and ambient air samples at significant levels. Detection limits for diesel particulate and ambient air are in low ng/g and pg/m3 respectively. Selected nitro-PAH compounds in several reference materials were determined.
