On the Possibility of Si60 Structure—An AM1 Treatment

Pages 119-125 | Received 22 Oct 1998, Accepted 24 Dec 1998, Published online: 22 Sep 2006

Abstract

A semiempirical treatment at the level of AM1 type calculations has been carried out for Si60 structure and compared with C60. It has been found that Si60 is more endothermic and thus less stable. Moreover, silicon substitutional doping on the periphery of hexagonal rings is more destabilizing than the case involving periphery of the pentagonal rings in the structure of C60
