THE EFFECT OF THE GAS-GAP FORMATION DUE TO SHRINKAGE ON THE RATE OF HEAT TRANSFER DURING SOLIDIFICATION

Abstract

A mathematical model is developed to investigate the gas-gap formation process at the metal-mold interface of a cylindrical casting during solidification. The governing equations are solved using an implicit finite difference technique. The effects of the gas gap on solidification time, surface temperature, temperature distributions, and position of solid-liquid interface are investigated.
