Abstract

Saturated film boiling ofn-propanol / water binary mixtures at atmospheric pressure over a horizontal cylinder is analyzed by a rigorous two-phase boundary layer theory. This numerical study is to determine the extent to which film boiling is affected by the mass diffusion effect. A modified criterion, in which radiation emissivity of the heating surface is included, is proposed for the condition of negligible effect of mass diffusion on film boiling heat transfer of the binary mixtures.
